Penn/Paul Baker, Transgender Veterans Liaison
I served on the USS George Bancroft SSBN 643. The Bancroft is a missile firing submarine. I served on her during her construction, sea trials, test ballistic missile launches and for 9 actual patrols. Each patrol lasted about 3 months with 2 of those months being under water. The food was good but the view was nonexistent.
When I left the Navy I had been selected as a Chief Petty Officer (E7) and if I had accepted the promotion I would have been the youngest E7 in the Navy at that time.
In 2000 I transitioned Male to Female. I completed my transition while employed by a global software company as a Senior Project Manager working with very large utilities. As a project manager my primary job has been to create teams to work in difficult cooperative environments. I remained with that company for 10 years. I continue in that same field today.
I have been married for 43 years and we are still happily married. I walk a Native American Spiritual path — as part of that journey I have learned to understand and respect most spiritual paths.
I feel my calling is to help others chart their course through transition and come to their true selves.
