June 14th marks the 238th birthday of the United States Army. The Continental Army was established on this day in 1775, marking the birth of the United States Military.

Thank you to all you who served, and to those who still answer the call all these many years later. It is appropriate that we remember the father of the United States Army, General Friedrich von Steuben, a gay man who helped give birth to the dream of America by establishing the armed forces by which we gained independence and defend our nation’s freedom.
